Procedures and Fees

    Fees are based on a medium sized painting (16 x 20 - 24 x 30 ) of one person.  Each
additional figure in a painting is 50% less than full price.  Prices  do not include framing, travel
costs, or photography costs.

When painting children, I work mostly from photographs due to the inability of children to
pose for long periods of time.  Adults often prefer to be photographed as well.  I prefer to shoot
my own photographs because the direction of lighting is critical in getting a good likeness.  I
usually shoot at least two or three rolls of film to be sure we have a good one. I sometimes
shoot digital and/or video as well.   I like to make a few color notes from life at the time I shoot
the photographs.   Occasionally I need to work from photos you have on hand (posthumous
portrait) but this is the exception.   I like to have an initial consultation where we can discuss
location/setting, clothing, and a pose/composition.   At this time we can talk about size and
what you want included in the portrait.

A deposit of 40% is due before beginning the photography.  I will include you in the process
of choosing a photo or sitting arrangement and you will be assisting in proofing the painting as
it moves along.  I want to insure your satisfaction and will welcome feedback.  Generally, an oil
portrait is finished in 8-10 weeks (watercolor and pastels take less time because there is no
wait for drying).  The balance is due upon delivery.  If you want help in choosing and ordering
a frame, I will help with that as well.

The sizes listed are examples for pricing.  I can make a canvas any size or shape you want.

I will also do monochromatic (pen and ink and graphite) portraits if desired.  Pen and ink
portraits can be used for screen printing.

I look forward to meeting with you and discussing the possibilities of a commissioned
portrait.  You can reach me at 480-497-0677 or at

E-mail  your address and I will mail you a brochure.
